Selecting Future Convention Sites

The annual International Convention is the most exciting event of the Toastmasters year. The 2014 convention was particularly noteworthy, because it was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—the first time the event was held outside North America. Since then, a number of members have actively proposed other cities as potential hosts for future conventions. While such enthusiasm is appreciated, it’s important to note that selecting convention sites is solely the responsibility of World Headquarters.

As part of the selection process, WHQ staff reaches out to leaders of the meeting-planning industry and contacts representatives of potential sites. The process is detailed and confidential. No individual—Toastmasters member or otherwise—is authorized to negotiate, propose or promote future convention sites on Toastmasters International’s behalf. It is inappropriate to seek a public or Toastmasters platform in order to advocate for future convention sites.

However, World Headquarters staff always welcomes ideas and suggestions. Any Toastmaster may suggest a future convention site, provide contact information for the local tourism board or convention center, or request that their city host an International Convention, by emailing us.
